WHERE TO PARK WHEN IT SNOWS
The City Council has amended the Snow Emergency Ordinance. This change went into effect on February 7, 2026. Please read below to see where to park when it snows:
AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 71.13 OF THE BENSON CODE OF ORDINANCES PERTAINING TO SNOW EMERGENCIES
SECTION 1. The City of Benson does ordain:
§ 71.13 SNOW EMERGENCIES
The Public Works Director, Chief of Police, City Manager, or other designated official may declare a snow emergency when there is at least 2 inches of snow or when snow removal operations are anticipated to be required on streets, alleys, or public parking lots. Snow emergencies shall be declared a minimum of 12 hours in advance of the start of snow removal operations. During snow emergencies parking on public streets, avenues, and alleys shall be prohibited from 12 midnight to 12 noon the day following the declaration of the snow emergency or until the snow plowing or removal has been completed across the full width of the roadway in the area involved, whichever is sooner.
(A) Parking will be permitted on public parking lots during snow removal operations. Generally, city roads running east/west will be plowed first followed by the city roads running north/south. Following the completion of snow removal operations when the full width of the city roads have been plowed, parking may resume on those cleared areas.
(B) The City will communicate snow emergencies to the public through all platforms available including but not limited to social media, mobile apps, radio, etc.
(C) Violators of this ordinance will be ticketed. Failure to remove a vehicle after citation may result in towing by the City.
