ROAD CONSTRUCTION
The City will start paving in the following areas as follows:
* Bernhardt Avenue between 10th Street North and 12th Street North - August 6, 2026
* Elizabeth Avenue between 10th Street North and 12th Street North - August 6, 2026
* Within the new Cottage Square subdivision of townhomes (west end of CSNelson townhome development) - August 10, 2026
Please refrain from Parking on the streets in these areas while paving work is underway. Use caution around construction crews and equipment.

2026 is a mid term election year. There will be a primary election on August 11, 2026. There will be a General Election on November 3, 2026.
Along with the regular mid term elections, the City of Benson has three City Council seats up for election in November for two Councilmembers and one Mayor.
WHERE DO YOU VOTE?
All elections for City of Benson residents in both precincts are now held at the Benson Community Center at 203 - 14th St. S., in Benson.
HOW TO REGISTER TO VOTE
If you are not registered to vote in the City of Benson, you can register early to save time at the polls. You MUST REGISTER AT THE SWIFT COUNTY COURTHOUSE, 300 14th St. N., Benson.
EARLY VOTING AND ABSENTEE VOTING
Early voting for the Primary Election is July 24 - August 10, 2026 at the Swift County Courthouse.
Early voting for the November Election is September 18 - November 2, 2026 at the Swift County Courthouse.

Are you planning a community event that’s open to the public and want help spreading the word? The City of Benson now has a Community Event Facebook Post Request Form to make it easy for local organizations to submit event details for possible promotion on the City’s Facebook page!
✅ Eligible Events Include:
✔️ Community events open to the public
✔️ Fundraisers, festivals, educational workshops, parades, etc.
❌ We’re not able to promote:
✖️ Commercial sales or garage sales
✖️ Private events (like weddings, showers, reunions)
✖️ Political endorsements or business advertisements
📋 What You’ll Need to Provide:
- Event name, date, time, and location
- A short event description or social media-ready post text
- Your organization’s name and contact info
- Optional event graphic or image
👉 Submit your event request at least 7 days before your desired posting date.

SEASONAL NOTICES
CITY COMPOST SITE
The City compost site is a place where Benson residents may dispose of yard waste. It is located west of the Street Department on the west end of Kansas Avenue and 22nd Street South.
There is an area marked for grass clippings and another area marked for branches. We ask you PLEASE TAKE YOUR GARBAGE BAGS WITH YOU when you leave, or dispose of them in the garbage can provided at the site. The plastic bags do not decompose into the soil. Because of illegal dumping at the site, the City now has surveillance cameras at the compost site.
The City of Benson is pleased to offer this service and appreciates your cooperation at the City compost site.
MOWING
Please mow grass clippings AWAY from the street. Grass clippings get swept onto the storm sewer grates and obstruct drainage of rain water. Some clippings end up in the river, along with yard pesticides and fertilizers. Please help by mowing the clippings onto the yard. The City appreciates your help!
MOSQUITO SPRAYING
Summer brings warm days. Along with that, MOSQUITOS! The City of Benson sprays for mosquitos when they begin to show up. Our spraying schedule, once we begin spraying is on Wednesdays and Thursdays 9 p.m. - 2 a.m.
You can help reduce mosquito breeding by emptying containers with stagnant standing water, regular cleaning of bird baths and keeping your lawn mowed.
